Phil Jones is Managing Director of Activ Training and is actually a professional electronics engineer who spent much of his early working life with Texas Instruments. He established the company in October 1995 following several years working for a major developer of training films and, (as it was then called), computer-based training. |

In its first few years, Activ earned a reputation for developing innovative e-Learning materials covering a broad subject area and its primary market was in the Public Sector. Then, nearly ten years ago, Phil made the decision to develop new learning materials that taught the ECDL Syllabus and soon afterwards, the major investment in building an online automated testing system followed.
“Our mission was always to be the number 1 choice for courseware and testing software for ECDL and ICDL, not just in the UK, but worldwide”, explains Phil. “But now we are also wholly committed to supporting other BCS Qualifications such as e-Citizen, e-type and whatever else may emerge! To us, ‘commitment’ is not just about producing the best courseware and testing software available. It is also about valuing our customers and supporting them speedily, efficiently and in a helpful and friendly manner.”

“And support is not just about technical issues”, Phil continues. “It is about communication. That is why we have decided to begin a programme of regular newsletters to our customer base. There is a lot happening in the world of BCS Qualifications at the moment, and it is important therefore that our customers are kept informed and helped along the way to make sense of what is going on. We make it our duty to stay ahead of the game.” |

Outside work, Phil lives in Bedford, just ten minutes from Activ HQ. He and his wife Christina, who is one of the Activ directors, have three children, two of whom are now at University. “I suppose you could say that Activ is a family business” he says. “Not just because Christina and I are at the helm, but because many of our staff, in Bedford and overseas, have been with the company a long time, so it seems like a family, albeit a large one!”
